There is a great bowl game that everyone does not want to miss. It makes no difference if the game is a College Football Playoff quarter final or if the Big Ten and Pac-12 champions are not in attendance.

Everyone is still in love with the Rose Bowl. And there’s always an excuse to gather with friends, family, and special ones on New Year’s Day at one of the most crowded stadiums on earth. While the game itself is usually spectacular, even if it’s a flop, viewers can still look forward to a beautiful sunset as the game proceeds!

Ohio State vs Utah Rose Bowl Game Preview

However, there’s a strong probability that this one won’t be a flop. In a showdown of two of the best teams in the country that did not make the playoffs, No. 11 Utah takes on No. 6 Ohio State.

The Buckeyes were one victory away from a playoff berth. At the same time, Utah would be dubbed “nobody wants to see this team in the playoffs” if an expanded 12-team format existed this season.

While we won’t see the national title on the spectacle, do not get it wrong. For most folks who are huge fans of the Rose Bowl, it is a special Rose Bowl. Not to mention, the pair that we are going to watch is worth our valuable time.

The upcoming matches are also rare. It will be only the second meeting that we witness between Ohio State and Utah in the entire history. The last time they met was in 1986.

Ohio State will come without the key players. It would be a pity since the important players wouldn’t get a chance to perform in the prestigious upcoming event. Not to mention, these players have great futures in the NFL. Of course, the fans are a bit sad that they’ve missed the chance to get promoted to the Rose Bowl.

Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, who combined for 135 receptions, 1,994 yards, and 25 touchdowns this season, will not be available for this game. The good news is that the receiving position is one where the Buckeyes can afford to be without guys.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the team’s leading receiver this season, is still on the field.

Not to mention the fact that Ohio State’s receiving room was so deep that Jameson Williams went to Alabama before the season to obtain more playing time.

Defensive lineman Haskell Garrett and starting left tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere are two players that may be difficult to replace.

Third downs will be crucial: It takes a true football genius to convince you that third downs matter, but they do!

And these are two offenses that are among the best in the league at converting on third downs.

Ohio State is third in the country in third-down conversion rate at 52 percent, while Utah ranks ninth at 49 percent. The Buckeyes are even better in third-and-medium situations (between 4 and 6 yards), converting 72 percent of the time.

This is by far the best in the country. The defense that does the best job of getting the opposing offense off the field on third down is likely to win.

Keep your eyes peeled for Utah’s pass rush: Despite being the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux did not lead the Pac-12 in sacks this season. He didn’t even qualify for the final two.

The roles were not filled by two Utes, but by two Utes. Mike Tafua led the league in sacks with 9.5, 1.5 more than Devin Lloyd, who was in second place.

When you look at them, you can see how important a good pass rush is in slowing down C.J. Stroud and the Ohio State passing offense. The Utes, with Tafua and Lloyd, are just as competent as anyone else at pulling it off.
