UCLA BRUINS
The UCLA Bruins football team has called the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena their home since 1982, after moving from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where they played since 1928.
The shift was influenced by the Oakland Raiders’ move to the Coliseum at the start of the 1982 NFL season.
Since relocating, the Bruins have participated in 12 Rose Bowl games at the stadium, with the most notable being the 1976 Rose Bowl that saw a record attendance of 105,464, a figure unlikely to be surpassed given the stadium’s current seating capacity of 91,136 for Bruins games.
The famed UCLA–USC rivalry game is held at the Rose Bowl on even years, with both teams previously wearing their home uniforms and sharing sides, a tradition that changed in 1984.
Interestingly, both schools boast winning records in each other’s home stadium due to the shared history and numerous Rose Bowl game participation by both teams.
SOCCER
While famous for American football, the Rose Bowl is also a major soccer venue. It has hosted big events like the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final, the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final, and the 1984 Olympic Gold Medal Match.
It’s the only place to have all these three big soccer matches. The U.S. men’s soccer team has played there 17 times, and the women’s team 5 times.
The stadium has seen matches from teams like the Los Angeles Galaxy and Los Angeles FC. A recent game between these two teams in 2023 set a record with 82,110 people watching.

OLYMPICS
The Rose Bowl Stadium is known to have hosted the gold medal Summer Olympics matches. These matches consist of 1932 track cycling and soccer in 1984.
